Div II Committee Request Process & Form

What exactly is the deal with the Division II Committee Request Process?

First of all, this process should concern you only if you are in your third semester at Hampshire, or if you are a transfer student who needs to transition right into Division II. 

If you are in that boat, you will need to complete and submit the Division II Committee Request Form on the Hub by the end of September.

This form should now be visible to all students. Go to the Division II tab on the Hub, and you will see the link on the left bar: "Committee Request."

The form will ask you for:

1. Your academic interests

2. Subject keywords for the fields in which you work (choose from drop down menu)

3. 3-5 prospective faculty members who could serve either as chair or member on your committee (choose from drop down menu)

4. A preliminary overview/description of the Division II concentration you have in mind 

5. Your goals - What do you want to know, understand, and be able to do by the end of Division II?

6. Anything else you want selected faculty to know about you.

You will also have the option to upload up to two files/include URLs of your relevant work. 

I recommend composing the elements of the form in another document and then pasting them in. Below is a version you can download and use for drafting. When you are satisfied, you can paste text into the form on the Hub, and finalize it!

What you can do to get ready to submit the form: 

• Email faculty with whom you would like to work in Div II, and make appts to talk about your ideas. It is much better to select faculty for the form with whom you have had a conversation. Don’t be afraid to reach out to faculty you don’t know, whose bios you have read on the Hampshire website—write a polite email first and tell them about yourself. 

• If you have particular priorities for Division II—such as a faculty member in Studio Arts or another high-demand area—mention that in the application. 

• Try to list the faculty members in order of preference, and give some sense of which you would rather be chair (aka your advisor) and which you would prefer to be member.
